Historical overview

Detskaya (Children’s) street appeared on the map in the middle of XVII century and was named Knyagininskaya (Princess’s) Street. In 1856 on the corner of Bolshoy (Big) prospect the hospital now named Pokrovskiy was founded (previously – the Charity Sisters’ Community). As far as the founder of the Community was the Princess Alexandra Petrovna Oldenburgskaya, the new street was named after her. The street was renamed to Detskaya in 1922, when one of the hospital premises was given to the pre-school (kindergarten).
